More than 25 years after a deadly gas leak from a Union Carbide plant caused the world’s worst industrial disaster which has since killed 15,134 and affected 5.74 lakh people, a local court on Monday held former chairman of UC’s India arm, Keshub Mahindra, and six others guilty under bailable sections of the Indian Penal Code and sentenced them to two years in prison.
The accused were fined about Rs 1 lakh each and immediately granted bail.

We are the largest functioning democracy in the world and a rapidly growing economy. But have we been able to give our own people a life to live?
